Setback on plans for Donegal’s first crematorium

 

Plans for Donegal’s first crematorium have been hit with a setback after An Bord Pleanala refused an appeal by the developers.
The proposed crematorium would be situated near Manorcunningham and would serve the entire North West Region.
Currently families have to travel to either Cavan or Belfast for the service.
In refusing the appeal, An Bord Pleanala stated that the proposed change of use from commercial development to a crematorium and funeral home would constitute a haphazard and piecemeal development on lands more suitable for agricultural commercial development.
They say that the lands are unsuitable and unsympathetic for the use of the subject site as a crematorium and funeral home, something local Cllr Paul Canning agrees with:
