A total of forty Gardai in the North West are out of work after either contracting Covid-19 or having been identified as close contacts.

Figures in today's Irish Independent show that there are hundreds of members nationwide restricting their movements.

The data shows there are over 70 members of the force in Louth out of work, while there are 50 more in Cork West and a further 40 in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

Senior Gardaí are due to meet later today to discuss the force's management of the current crisis.
