Charlie O’Hagan: ‘A Life in Football’

Have you heard of the Donegal man who managed Spanish giants Seville to a league title? Who was born in the Souvenir House in Buncrana, played for some of the top British clubs including Spurs, Everton and Aberdeen? Who was capped eleven times for Ireland?
Charlie O’Hagan is probably the greatest Donegal soccer player you’ve never heard of but his record as a player and coach is up there with anyone in Irish football.
In this documentary, Jim Doherty will take you on a journey, exploring the life and times of one of Irelands first professional footballers who went on to fight in the First World War, moved into professional management both in Britain and in Europe and changed career to work as a journalist before moving to New York in 1928. Charlie had a successful and dramatic life before losing it all and dying penniless after the Wall Street Crash.

Produced by Jim Doherty of Crana Communications, funded by the broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the television licence fee.
