Over 50% of court fines issued in Donegal go unpaid


Just over 50% of court fines issued in Donegal last year were not paid, according to figures released by the Courts Service.
In 2019, 1,283 fines were given out by judges in district courts across the county, totalling just over €378,000. However, only 652 have been paid, leaving just over €191,000 outstanding.
157 fines were issued in Ballyshannon, 56% of which were paid, 668 fines were issued in Letterkenny, 54% of which were paid, while Donegal Town courthouse saw 108 fines issued, 53% of which were paid.
Of 56 fines issued in Dungloe, 48% were paid, Buncrana saw 110 fines, 45% of which were paid, while of 19 fines issued in Glenties, 37% were paid.
99 fines were issued in Carndonagh, 34% of which were paid, while Falcarragh saw 28 fines issued, with the county’s lowest payment rate of 32%.
