Derry to lose out on promotion

Derry’s outside hopes of gaining promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz league look to be gone, after Longford conceeded this weekend’s final round game to the Division winners Cork, with Longford manager Padraic Davis labelling the game ‘a dead rubber’.
Down will now be promoted without having to kick a ball.
If Longford pulled of a surprise result against Cork, Derry won in Offaly and Louth shocked Down the Derry would go up on score difference.
No matter the results at the weekend, Down have the head-to-head advantage on Derry -which means Down move up.
Amid the ongoing threat posed by Covid-19 – Davis believes it’s not necessary to make the 500-kilometre round trip to face a side already crowned Division Three champions.
