Donegal receives its first Green Flag Award

Donegal has received its first Green Flag Award.

The Green Flag Award for Parks is a mark of a quality park or green space recognised throughout the world.

Barrack Hill Town Park in Carndonagh is the first park in Donegal to receive a Green Flag Award.

The accolade is only awarded to parks for exceeding tough environmental standards in green space management, and excellence of visitor attractions. It is the mark of a quality park or green space and is recognised throughout the world.

84 Irish Parks and Gardens have been awarded a Green Flag Award for 2020.

The awards are judged by a peer jury of green space experts, who visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability, and community involvement.

In addition, The River Walk Dungloe has recevied a Green Flag Community Award which recognises the excellence of volunteer run community green spaces.
