Planning approval for Café Roc site redevelopment

Full planning approval has been granted for the redevelopment of the former Café Roc Bar and NightClub on Derry’s Strand Road to provide 27 self-contained apartment accommodation units.
The apartments will cater for over-55 active elderly people and will include a wheelchair accessible unit on the ground floor.
Planning officials considered the application acceptable and in accordance with the Derry Area Plan 2011 and were satisfied that the proposal demonstrated a quality residential environment.
A communal open space will also be provided on the ground floor level.
At a meeting held yesterday by Derry City and Strabane Distrcit Councils Planning Committee, there was a discussion at the meeting relating to objections to the application around the lack of parking, no drop off areas for traffic and no green space provision however planning officials assured members that the application was in accordance with the relevant planning guidance.
The agent acting on behalf of the applicant also advised and reassured members regarding the issues raised by the objectors.
Consideration was also given to previous planning history on the site.
