Age Friendly Donegal launches new activity initiative

A new physical activity initiative, aimed at older adults who are cocooning, is being launched in the coming days by HSE Community Physiotherapy, in partnership with the Age Friendly Alliance, Sports Partnerships and Public Participation Networks across Donegal.
Donegal is one of many counties in Ireland that are part of the Age Friendly Ireland Programme.
Covid 19 has given the programme some challenges but in Donegal the Programme continues to reach to the Older People in all communities during this time of need.
As part of this programme, Donegal Age Friendly have created a simple pack that older adults in the community will receive to their home.
The pack will include the daily exercise programme to keep on the move as well as quizzes, word games and pictures to colour.
The aim is to help keep the mind and brain active.
Some new recipes will be included and a packet of Flower seeds to encourage older people to plant outside in their garden while getting Vitamin D.
This simple pack was designed to help older people remain active mentally and physically and to help them get back to their normal activities more quickly when the restrictions of Covid lift in the future.
To request a pack Mairead Cranley of Age Friendly Donegal, Donegal County Council can be contacted on on 074 9153900 or the Covid-19 Community Response Helpline on 1800 – 928982
