Backlog in Housing Adaptation Grants assessments causes problems

 

Its emerged that an elderly woman in the Lifford Stranorlar area has had to travel to a neighbouring town on a number of occasions to shower due to a backlog in Housing Adaptation Grants assessments.
The lengthy waiting list was raised by Councillor Patrick McGowan back in July when it was revealed that people were waiting up to 9 months for an assessment by an occupational therapist under the scheme.
Donegal County Council says, since then they have significantly addressed the backlog.
However, Councillor McGowan says a shortage of occupational therapists is still having a negative impact on the waiting lists:
