GSOC receive 1,448 complaints in 2019, 28 in Donegal

GSOC
GSOC has received a total of 1,448 allegations of malpractice against the force so far this year, 28 of them in Donegal.
According to details released under the Freedom of Information Act, only one has been upheld, but the majority are still open.
Nearly 500 allegations relate to ‘abuse of authority’ or ‘neglect of duty.’ 10 relate to sexual offences.
Sinn Féin’s justice spokesman, Martin Kenny, says he’s concerned it’s taking GSOC several months to rule on complaints…………

Frank Thornton, the vice president of the Garda Representative Association, says many complaints are made on the basis of people not understanding garda procedures.
He also says the year on year trend is down, and that’s to be welcomed………….
