€3M spent on agency staff at LUH in five months

 

It’s been revealed that almost €3 million has been spent on agency staff at Letterkenny University Hospital in the first five months of 2019, the highest amount spent across the whole Saolta Hospital group.
Latest HSE figures show that close to €2 million was spent on doctors and consultants, €283,000 went towards hiring nurses, it cost €13,000 to employ agency paramedics with just over €650,000 having gone towards hiring support service personnel.
Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty says the reliance on agency staff at the hospital is out of control.
He believes that the money spent on agency staff at the hospital would go a long way in providing extra resources to alleviate some of the existing pressures:
