Update – HSE promise maternity cover for Speech and Language service

It’s emerged that Speech and Language Therapy services could be compromised in West Donegal because cover is not being provided in the case of a staff member taking maternity leave.
A number of concerned parents spoke on today’s Nine Til Noon Show, and Deputy Pearse Doherty confirmed on the programme that a Dail response he had received from Minister Simon Harris suggests the money for a temporary replacement is not being provided………

Update June 5th –
The HSE has issuede a statement saying that cover is being provided to ensure continuity of Speech & Language Therapy Services in West Donegal over the coming months.
Two leaves are commencing, one assigned to the Social Care School Age Disability Service based in Public Services Centre Dungloe, the other to the Primary Care Service based in the Community Hospital Dungloe.
The HSE says arrangements are currently underway to provide cover, and service users will be managed on a clinical prioritisation basis, with an additional Speech & Language therapist to be appointed by September.
