Man who raped Donegal woman has sentence upheld

A Donegal woman who was raped while working at a gaming convention in Dublin almost four years ago welcomed a Court of Appeal ruling upholding the 12-year prison sentence imposed on her rapist.

30 year Keith Hearne, of Allenton Drive, Tallaght, Dublin 24 pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, one count of oral rape and one count of falsely imprisoning Dominique Meehan at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown on July 4th, 2015.

He sought to appeal the sentence on grounds that the sentencing judge failed to attach sufficient weight to his psychiatric illnesses. However, the Court of Appeal held that he did not have any active symptoms of mental illness at the time of the offence and it, therefore, did not affect his culpability.

Dominique Meehan says it's a very important ruling..............
