Calls for vigilance after fire breaks out at derelict house

There are calls on the owners of abandoned and derelict houses in Letterkenny to ensure they are well secured.
The call comes after a fire broke out at a derelict house in the Long Lane area of the town yesterday evening, Saturday 4th May.
Units of the Donegal Fire Service were called to the scene around 7.15pm yesterday evening by residents who noticed smoke coming from the rear of the house.
On arrival, fire fighters discovered a fire burning in the kitchen, which was quickly extinguished.
It’s understood this is the second time this house has been set alight.
Cllr Gerry McMonagle has praised the vigilance of the public and has encouraged anyone who notices suspicious activity around abandoned or derelict houses to report it Gardaí.
