Irish Water has agreed to fast track upgraded works to the water supply which serves Gortahork and Falcarragh.
The utility says that the necessary funding is in place to carry out the works and the design work is due to start in the coming weeks - it's expected that all works will be complete long before the initial October deadline.
In the interim, some mitigation works will take place along the pipe network to ensure the burst frequency is reduced.
It follows major upheaval locally with businesses forced to shut their doors as a result of water outages on several occasions.
