A cautious welcome has been given to news that a new batch of X5 vehicles have been assigned to Gardai.
They will be operating in counties Donegal, Cavan, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan and Sligo under the Northern Garda Region.
However Donegal GRA Spokesperson Brendan O’Connor says the devil is very much in the detail and that most of the batch are in fact replacement vehicles.
He says while it’s a step in the right direction, much more resources are needed in the Donegal Garda Division to bring it back to previous standards:
