Update: Air Corps and Army on scene to assist with wildfire


An Air Corps helicopter has arrived in Donegal to help tackle wildfires in the west of the county.
The Defence Forces say army personnel from nearby Finner Camp are also providing ground support.
Firefighters, Civil Defence and local volunteers have been battling gorse fires since 6 o’clock this morning.
Captain Paddy Molloy, spokesman for the Defence Forces, says the Army and Air Corps is ready to help:

Milford Gardaí have joined calls from Donegal County Council for all motorists in the Belcruit, Kincasslagh and Loughanure areas to avoid coming to the locality as the amount of cars on the road has caused serious issues for the fire brigade in accessing the fires during the afternoon.
There have been unconfirmed reports of damage to houses.
Local Cllr Mícheal Cholm McGiolla Easbuig has once again paid tribute to the work of volunteers on the ground and says attempts are ongoing to evacuate houses:
