In a statement the force has also urged the owners of construction machinery to ensure it they are well secured and to consider installing immobilizers.

Police in the North say a dedicated team of detectives continues to investigate the nine incidents of ATM theft to date and local police patrols are actively patrolling vulnerable and high risk locations.

The force has also said however, that it's not possible for officers to be everywhere at once and to predict where these criminal may target next.

They've renewed their appeal to the public as the weekend approaches to report any suspicious activity, especially concerning the movement of Plant Machinery.

They're also urging the owners of heavy machinery such as diggers and JCBs to ensure they're properly secured and to consider having immobilizers installed to them.
