Setanta win All-Ireland Sevens Shield

Setanta claimed their third Beacon Hospital Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Sevens Shield title on Saturday evening.
Paul Campbell’s charges captured their first success in the competition for the first time since 2011, with an impressive 6-14 to 1-9 win over Kildare’s Éire Óg Corrachoill in the decider.
Captain Danny Cullen led by example, and along with Davin Flynn and Declan Coulter, kept Éire Óg’s keeper Paul Dermody busy, with four goals registered by the interval.
Setanta led 4-6 to 0-5 at half-time, and failed to ease up on the restart.
Coulter claimed a fifth goal just 12 seconds after the restart, before Flynn found the net a minute later to open up a 6-6 to 0-6 lead.
Éire Óg never gave up, but Setanta stood firm, as Cullen accepted the Shield from Sports Minister Shane Ross afterwards.
