Health professionals meeting to discuss Paul Harte’s future care

A meeting is taking place today to discuss the future care of a 53 year old man with Down Sydrome who also has dementia and is in the final stages of life.
Paul Harte cannot eat, and needs to receive fluids, which he is currently receiving at Letterkenny University Hospital.
His family say he was to have been transferred to Lifford Hospital, but that was stopped, with the family saying they’ve been told he is not being admitted to Lifford Hospital because he is under 65, and also because he has “intellectual learning disabilities “.
We understand that discussions have taken place between the hospitals in Letterkenny and Lifford, and a Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting is taking place today to determine how Mr Harte’s needs can be met.
