Three wards at Altnagelvin Hospital closed due to vomiting bug

Three wards at Altnagelvin Hospital Derry have been closed to admissions because of a vomiting bug.
Wards 3, 41 and 42 are not taking new patients because of the norovirus.
It’s understood that a small number of patients in the hospital have been affected.
The temporary ward closures has impacted on the capacity within its Emergency Department at the hospital.
People are being advised that if they are attending Altnagelvin’s Emergency Department they may experience a longer wait.
They have been asked to consider alternative health care choices, such as the GP Out of Hours service or the local pharmacist.
Meanwhile, visitors have been asked to follow strict hygiene rules. They should avoid visiting the hospital if they are feeling unwell, particularly if they have diarrhoea or vomiting.
Those who are visiting are asked to thoroughly wash their hands before and after visiting.
Management at the hospital say that the situation is being reviewed daily.
