Public consultation on new Riverine Community Park tonight

A community consultation event is being held this evening to discuss proposals for the new Riverine Community Park.
Members of the public are being invited to attend the event this evening at 6:45pm in the Courthouse, Lifford as part of ongoing community consultation, offering the community a chance to have their say on the shared space.
The Riverine Community Park, once complete will allow for a combined site in Lifford and Strabane, physically linked by a footbridge across the River Foyle.
Tonight’s public consultation follows discussions between Donegal County Council, Derry City & Strabane District Council and various community groups, with a view to providing a range of much needed facilities not currently available to the community on a cross community basis.
In 2017 a funding application to the Peace IV Programme for the Riverine Community Park was submitted and while the application progressed to the second stage of the process and while the principle of the park was deemed acceptable and warranted, the application did not meet the threshold for approval based on a lack of evidence demonstrating the need of the community.
It is hoped that a further application to the 2nd call of the Peace IV Objective 3 Shared Spaces and Services will be made.
