City Deal campaign travels to London


A delegation from Derry and Strabane travelled to London yesterday to discuss a City Deal for the region.
Derry City and Strabane District Council Chief Executive John Kelpie said, they outlined to Minister Sajid Javid the economic beenfits the deal would bring for the region in terms of job creation, investment and population growth.
The delegation, including council reprsentatives from Derry City and Strabane Disctrict Council, Ulster University, North West Regional College and Derry’s Chamber of Commerce along with Foyle MP Elisha McCallion, travelled to London yesterday where they met with Minister Sajid Javid to discuss a City Deal for the region.
Between now and 2032, the Strategic Growth Plan targets an increase in jobs, population and a decrease in unemployment.
The key catalyst projects identified are the A5 Western Transport Corridor, the completion of the A6, the expansion of Ulster University and NWRC, and the A2 economic corridor as well as transformative urban regeneration schemes in Strabane Town centre, Derry’s riverfront and the delivery of a major iconic tourism attractor for the region.
