2017 Sporting Review – Rugby

Donegal’s Nora Stapleton retired from Irish Rugby this year after playing for her country 50 times. The out-half from Fahan was part of the Grand Slam-winning side in 2013 and claimed a second Six Nations medal two years later. Stapleton was also a crucial part in the Irish side that famously beat the All Blacks at the 2014 World Cup.
Joe Dunleavy made a dream start to his professional provincial career by scoring a try during his debut for an Ulster A side that defeated Scarlets Premiership Select in the opening round of the British & Irish Cup at Banbridge RFC.
Meanwhile another Letterkenny lad – Conor McMenamin -was capped for the Ireland U18s rugby team in a 29-17 win over England. Carndonagh teenager Stephen Kelly and Letterkenny’s Mia Alcorn would be capped for Ulster at underage level.
There was all that and more in 2017, as reviewed live on Saturday Sport…
