Udaras to seek return of money from SLM

Udaras na Gaeltachta says it will seek the return of money paid in grants to SLM on the Gweedore Business Park, after the company closed without warning yesterday afternoon.
It’s reported a liquidator has been appointed, but Udaras say it has not received any confirmation of that fact.
In a statement last night, Udaras described the SLM closure as a significant blow to the company’s current employees and to others who were due to start work there after Christmas.
Údarás say they were not given any indication that the company was to close, and no contact had been received from the company in this regard as of close of business yesterday.
Údarás na Gaeltachta approved a comprehensive support package for SLM Ceangail Éire Teo. when they were first established in Gaoth Dobhair early last year, with a total of €171,467 paid in grant aid, enmcompassing Employment & Training Grants & Rental Subsidy.
Udaras say once appropriate details are officially confirmed as regards reports of the companies liquidation, all appropriate steps will be taken to recoupm the state aid.
Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh, Chief Executive Údarás said this news is a significant source of disappointment for the Gaoth Dobhair community just before the Christmas period, and the agency will continue with its diligent efforts to create new jobs on Gaoth Dobhair Business Park.
