Doherty seeks clarity on Tory Ferry plans

It has been claimed that contrary to a previous announcement, no funding is available from Central Government to commission a new ferry for Tory Island.

Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty says the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has confirmed to him there is no funding on the table for a new vessel.

In September, Government Chief Whip Minister Joe McHugh indicated that €4 million had been sanctioned for the new ferry, with a further €2.5 million to provide a breakwater at Magheroarty Pier.

Deputy Dohertys says a report commissioned 7 years ago is currently being looked at to advance to the first stage of the project, but the department has made clear no funding is available.

He says the residents of Tory need clarification on the future of the ferry service..............
