Joe Duffy suffers second UFC loss at UFC 217

Donegal’s Joe Duffy suffered his second UFC loss by TKO in the last second of the second round against James Vick last night.
It was a fight that Duffy had controlled in the first round, maintaining control of the centre of the octagon, using low kicks and counter right hands to keep his opponent at bay. Duffy also scored two successful takedowns in the first round.
The second round saw a drop in Duffy’s work-rate which allowed Vick to take control. An uppercut from Vick knocked Duffy off his feet, and the American pounced on the fallen Irishman, hitting heavy shots.
It did look like Duffy was moving onto his back, and seemed to be guarding himself, but the referee disagreed, and stopped the fight with one second left in the round.
The win leaves James Vick at 8-1 in the UFC, while Duffy is now 4-2.
In other news at UFC 217, it was the first time in the promotion’s history that there were 3 title changes on one card. Rose “Thug” Namajunas defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk to claim the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship, TJ Dillashaw is the new UFC Bantamweight Championship following his win over Cory Garbrandt, and Georges St-Pierre made a triumphant return to the Octagon, showing no signs of ring-rust as he choked out Michael Bisping to claim the UFC Middleweight Championship
