Flash flooding events similar to those that devastated Donegal on the rise


A meeting of the Citizen’s Assembly on climate change in Dublin has heard that a notable increase in events such as the flash flooding that hit Donegal in August is expected.
The 99 citizens as well as a panel of experts gathered at Malahide Castle today to discuss policy changes the government can implement to reduce carbon emissions.
Dr Saji Varghese of Met Eireann says looking ahead while annual rainfall is expected to remain the same, the frequency of heavy rainfall events such as flash flooding is expected to increase by 30%:
