Arrests made in connection with attempted murder of police officer in Derry

Two men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of an off duty police officer in Derry.
A 43 year old and a 59 year old were arrested by detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch after a viable under vehicle improvised explosive device was was discovered at the home of a police officer in the Ardnalee area of Derry on 22nd February this year.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Peter McKenna said: “If this UVIED had exploded with the police officer and his young family in the car it would have had devastating consequences.
He added; ‘I believe the New IRA are responsible for this cowardly attack during which they put everyone’s safety at risk as the device was left in a residential area and could have exploded at any time.’
Police continue to appeal to anyone who has any information in connection with the incident to come forward, they believe there are still people in the community who hold vital pieces of information that could assist with the investigation.
