DUP politicians “feared for their safety” at Derry meeting

Two DUP politicians in Derry say they had to leave a public meeting in the city last night after they became fearful for their safety.
MLA Gary Middleton and Cllr Hilary Mc Clintock were attending a meeting hosted by the Western Health Trust at the Verbal Arts Centre in the city to discuss proposed spending cuts.
Mr Middleton told the BBC that after the meeting was disrupted by hecklers, he and his colleague left through an emergency exit because they were intimidated.
Sinn Fein MLA Karen Mullan hit out at the hecklers, saying abusive behaviour and the disruption of public meetings is not the way to successfully oppose cuts, .
She said public debate and discourse should always be carried out in a dignified and respectful manner.
