Pressure mounts today for Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone

The Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone remains under pressure today, following the latest revelations about an alleged smear campaign against Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.
Minister Zappone reportedly knew of Tusla’s role in spreading baseless allegations against McCabe up to three weeks ago, but didn’t inform the rest of cabinet.
She says it would have been inappropriate for her to brief the cabinet on what was discussed during her meeting with Maurice McCabe.
The Taoiseach and Tánaiste were told that Katherine Zappone was meeting Sergeant McCabe – but not the reasons why.
Last night Minister Zappone’s spokesperson said she assumed the information was the subject of a protected disclosure.
