Donegal concede late to lose opening McKenna Cup tie

Declan Bonner
A late goal from Ryan McHugh was enough to see University of Ulster, Jordanstown passed a youthful Donegal side in the opening fixture of the Dr McKenna Cup.
With Declan Bonner in charge, Donegal fielded a side made up of the under-21 panel and they took the lead through a Niall O’Donnell point- O’Donnell went on to impress throughout.

After 27 minutes, Michael Carroll sent Donegal ahead through a well worked goal and the score stood at 2:05- 1:08.
In the second half, UUJ took the game down to a one point game in the opening minutes through a James Kearney point.
Once again the sides continued to trade points on each end but Donegal looked to be taking charge of the game when Brenden McCole smashed home a goal from 21 metres out.
With four minutes to play and the score standing at 4:13-1:19, a win looked to be on the books for Bonner’s men but a late goal from McHugh stole the win for UUJ.
