Thousands of students from across the northwest will attend the award winning Donegal Road Safety Roadshow in Lettekenny over the course of the next two days.
At the Aura leisure centre, almost 3,000 students from Donegal, Derry and Tyrone will hear the hard hitting message ‘Remember, the next time it could be you’.
Short road safety videos and TV adverts are interspersed with accounts of crash scenes by a range of speakers including an Emergnecy Department consultant, a Garda, a paramedic, a fire fighter, a victim of a road traffic collision and the mother of a fatally injured road traffic casualty all of whom give a first hand account of their personal experiences and emotions in the aftermath of a car crash.
The show is organised by Donegal County Council and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group Road Safety and the show is a direct approach to improving road safety and reducing the devastating impact on communities and families in the county.
The show is attended by over 2,500 students annually – Donegal Road Safety Officer Brian O’Donnell says it is a very important aspect of the road safety campaign:
