Finn Harps’ run of straight defeats came to an end at the Showgrounds when they battled to a deserved share of the spoils against Sligo Rovers.
Harps were almost denied the point when Sligo were awarded a contentious penalty in the last minute when Ethan Boyle was penalised for a challenge on Craig Rodden.
But Raffaele Cretaro blasted his spot kick high and over the crossbar.
It’s a welcome result for Ollie Horgan’s side who now move five points clear of Wexford Youths with just five games to go.
Sligo have had their problems in recent weeks – this game was their fifth game in a row without a goal.
However, this was a much more important game for a Harps side who are battling to avoid the drop. They played well on the night and created chances of their own.
Their best opening came at the start of the second half when Sligo twice cleared the ball off the line in the space of 30 seconds.
