The Government has been urged to provide funding for City of Derry Airport during the Commencement Debate in the Seanad this afternoon.
Minister for Tourism and Sport Patrick O’Donovan was responding to the issue raised by Senator Padraig MacLochlainn.
Senator MacLochlainn is also calling for the Government to support a Public Service Obligation subsidy to restore a service between Derry and Dublin.
He says co-funding the airport with the British Government would be a positive move:
Due to absence of Minister Shane Ross, Minister O’Donovan suggested a meeting to discuss the issue further in the coming weeks.
However he did say with the limitations of Government funding for airports, they must work within those parameters:
