Harps start a vital series of home fixtures against bottom of the table Longford Town this Friday night in Ballybofey (kick-off 8.00) with Ollie Horgan’s side looking to pick up the three points that would boost their efforts to avoid dropping towards the relegation zone. Harps are currently five points above second from bottom Wexford Youths, but have a game fewer played.
Acknowledging the importance of home support and the glut of home games coming together, Finn Harps have announced a discount ticket package for the three games. Tickets will be available from Wednesday 14th September from the usual outlets around the county and offer savings to fans attending all three games. After the Longford game Harps take on Cork City on Monday and St Pat’s the following Friday.
Wexford host Derry City this Friday night so it is a hugely important night for all three bottom sides. It’s a long shot, but Longford can still beat the drop with seven games remaining so the Midlanders have to come to Finn Park looking for a victory. On the other hand Horgan is looking for a win that could potentially put his team eight points clear if Wexford lose to Derry.
It’s been a tough time for the players on the back of six straight defeats and Finn Harps Secretary John Campbell acknowledged that it has been a difficult spell. But he says it’s now time for the fans to come to Ballybofey on Friday night and really drive on a group of players and a manager who have performed excellently over the past couple of seasons and given it everything despite the constraints of being a part-time club in the Premier Division.
“We had that good run around the mid-season break but it has been a tough time for us all over the past two months. But to be fair, Ollie and the players have kept doing everything to try and end that bad run. It would be nice now if we could get the supporters into Finn Park in big numbers in the week ahead to get the points that that would give everyone involved at the club a boost, especially as we have a hectic schedule over the coming weeks with lots more games to play.”
