Tipperary manager Liam Kearns told his players that they had to dig themselves out of a hole if they wanted to beat Derry.
Tipp beat Derry on Saturday in the All Ireland qualifiers and now face Galway.
He said the team did not play well in the first half, but praised his players for their spirit in the last 10 minutes to win the game.
