A man arrested by police following a house search in Derry has been released unconditonally.
The 48 year old man was detained following the search of a house in the Creggan area on Friday night.
Further searches took place on Saturday morning in the Creggan and Galliagh areas, during which a viable improvised explosive device and various other component parts were recovered at a location in Galliagh.
Police say these items were made safe at the scene and have been taken away for further forensic examination.
Local Cllr Brian Tierney described those behind the explosive device as reckless thugs who could have caused chaos here.
He said at a time that the city is comeing together to celebrate the arrival of the Clipper crews, there is no place for those who seek to create division with the violence of the past.
Cllr Tierney concluded Derry is a city on the rise, and will not be dragged back.
