Airtricity League champions Dundalk inflicted a heaviest ever home Premier Division defeat on ten man Derry City as they ran out 5-0 winners.
Stephen Kenny’s side had the tonic of an opening goal from David McMillan in less than two minutes.
And they stunned City again on 20 minutes as Dane Massey rose to head home a Daryl Horgan free.
On a night when nothing went right for Derry, Ryan McBride was then given a straight red for a challenge on Stephen O’Donnell as he sped onto a Horgan pass 40 yards from goal on 29 minutes.
McMillan made it 3-0 before the break and completed his hat-trick on 85 minutes with a cracking shot from the edge of the D while in between Horgan blasted in the fourth on 56 minutes.
Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rodgers made two good saves to deny Rory Patterson and Barry McNamee in the first half but the night belonged to the Lilywhites who are now six points clear of Cork at the summit and 12 ahead of third placed Derry City.
