Central Criminal Court

Two Polish men have gone on trial for the alleged murder of another Polish man in Co. Donegal in May 2013.
Bogdan Michalkiewicz  was stabbed and beaten to death at his home in Letterkenny.
Mr. Michalkiewicz lived in an apartment block just off Main Street in Letterkenny. He came to Ireland in 2005 and had been living in the area for several years.
The prosecution believes he was killed sometime between 11.25am and 4.36pm on May 13th 2013 two days before his body was discovered.
A post mortem revealed he’d been stabbed a number of times in the face, neck and stomach areas. He also had several crush-type injuries which were consistent with being stamped on.
Krystof Grzegorskiof Hazelbrook Park, Letterkenny has pleaded guilty to manslaughter this morning but this wasn’t accepted by the DPP.
His co-accused, Dariusz Weckowicz of no fixed abode, has also denied the murder charge.
The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
