Downings claimed their first Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta Junior title
in 24 years, with a 2-9 to 0-12 win over Renvyle in Ballyvourney.
Little separated the sides in the opening stages, and they were tied
at 0-5 apiece after 30 minutes, but a 33rd minute goal from Man of the
Match Lorcan O’Connor handed Downings a three-point lead at the break.
Renvyle cut the gap to the minimum inside four minutes of the restart,
but Gary McClafferty fired Downings second goal to ensure a 2-5 to 0-7
lead, and they kept ahead until the finish.
Former London Senior footballer Cathal O’Neill tried hard for Renvyle
and along with Noel Varley they helped cut the gap to four points in
the 53rd minute, but Downing’s held firm to claim a three-point win.
