Mc Gowan fears “pay by weight” will increase rather than reduce bin costs

pay by weight
A Donegal councillor is calling for the scrapping of a new “Pay by weight” system of bin charges which is due to come into effect on July 1st.
Waste collectors have been preparing for the new arrangements for some time, with bins being chipped and specialist weight measuring equipment being installed on bin lorries.
The system is intended to make is cheaper for people who recycle, but Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan argues that while most people in rural areas can control how many tags they buy, and how often they out out their bins, now they will face a basic minimum charge.
Cllr Mc Gowan fears costs will rise rather than fall, and there will be no incentive to reduce or recycle waste………
