IPU protests in Dublin as DoSP seeks to pay part time claimants through banks

Postmasters are staging a protest in Dublin this morning over the decision to pay some social welfare payments through banks.
They claim the Department of Social Protection is effectively trying to shut them down.
The Irish Postmasters’ Union says it contacted the Department three weeks ago, when the union became aware of the decision to transfer payments to jobseekers who work on a part-time or casual basis from post offices to banks.
Breid Gallagher is the IPU’s Donegal representative – She says the one department is undermining the post office network at the same time that a working group is considering how to guarantee its future……
