FAI Senior Cup result: Portmarnock 1 v 1 Letterkenny Rovers
Letterkenny Rovers face a fixture headache after drawing another big cup match.
Manager Eamonn McGonigley took his team to Dublin on Sunday to face Portmarnock in the FAI Senior Cup and drew 1-1.
The sides are now expected to replay the match in a fortnight on April 24.
Darren McElwaine scored Letterkenny’s goal.
He equalised after Rovers conceded in the eighth minute but then responded strongly.
However, they were reduced to 10 men and had to hold on at the end.
The fixtures are now piling up for Rovers who are already facing a replay in the FAI Intermediate Cup against Cork side Ringmahon Rangers on April 17.
Rovers’ boss Eamonn said before the match that he is hoping to win beat Portmarnock and then to draw a big team for a glamour match at home in Donegal.
Rovers and Portmarnock were no doubt sizing each other up as they can potentially meet in the final of the FAI Intermediate Cup.
Last weekend, Rovers drew 1-1 with Ringmahon Rangers in one semi while Portmarnock drew 2-2 with Crumlin United.
Rovers’ manager Eamonn afterwards told Diarmaid Doherty for Sunday Sport that he is delighted with the second half performance from his 10 men…
