Lark in the Park Rally returns this month

After an absence of one year, the ‘Lark in the Park Stage Rally’ will return to St. Columb’s Park in Derry/Londonderry on Saturday April 23rd. This event promoted and organised by the Maiden City Motor Club has always proven to be a very popular with competitors and rally fans alike because of its locality and easy access it makes it an ideal event with the wider public who may have a more than casual interest in motorsport. Innovations for this special year include a revised route for the event with three stages in the Quigley’s Point area followed by the final 3 stages taking place back in the events home, the beautiful St Columb’s Park, in the heart of the Waterside district.
The event committee are absolutely delighted that the Lark in the Park is back in the ‘Park’ thanks to the support and backing of local bodies, the new Derry City & Strabane District Council and OFMDFM, all having made this possible.
It will makes for a great family fun day out with the opportunity for spectators to see rally action up close in the heart of the city, with state of the art rally cars competing alongside the ever popular and more than often sideways Mark 2 Escorts along with a number of historic rally cars. The Maiden City Motor Club is planning a wonderful day of motor sport, where top local drivers in fabulous cars, demonstrating their skills around the twisty St Columb’s Park lanes, with special attention being paid to providing superb and safe viewing areas for spectators and families.
As for the rally, competitor’s will compete on 6 special stages using the tight and demanding asphalt park lanes along with the fast and demanding Donegal roads, for both modern and historic rally cars, sure to provide plenty of entertainment for the whole family.
The event is also going to incorporate a family fun day, with entertainment for the whole family, with bouncy castles, clowns and much more for the whole family throughout the day both in St Columb’s Park, all kicking off in the St Columb’s Park stage at 1PM on Saturday 23rd April.
Maiden City Motor Club have selected local charity, Children in Crossfire, to benefit from the proceeds of the Lark in the Park this year. Entry to the event is £5, we would encourage everyone to come and support the event and this local charity as all profits will be donated to Children in Crossfire, to support a great cause.
