Tierney urges vigilence following break-in at elderly woman’s home

Cllr Brian Tierney

A Derry councillor is urging community vigilance following a break in at the home of a woman in her eighties in the Galliagh area of the city.

An intruder entered the bungalow at Glencaw Park, in which the woman lives on her own, at around 3.50 yesterday morning. He went into her bedroom, but fled when he saw her. The woman was uninjured, but badly shaken.

A purse containing cash was taken from a downstairs room, it was later found empty in Cashel Hill Park.

Local Councillor Brian Tierney says other local properties were also targeted, but no other thefts were reported. He spoke last night to Highland Radio News..................
