The launch of the 2016 EirGrid Ulster U21 Football Championship took place last night, Monday 7 March, at the Tyrone GAA Centre in Garvaghey, in the company of players and management from each of the competing Counties.
Speaking at the launch, Ulster GAA Vice-President Oliver Galligan said, “The EirGrid Ulster U21 Football Championship is now well established as one of the premier GAA competitions in Ireland, showcasing the best young talent in the game. I am delighted that we are able to launch this year’s competition at the home of the reigning All-Ireland U21 champions Tyrone, which is testament to the standard of the Province’s teams at this level. I would like to thank our competition sponsors EirGrid for their continued support, and look forward to another intriguing EirGrid Ulster U21 Football Championship.”
Commenting at the launch, Fergal Keenan, Agricultural Liaison officer from SONI, EirGrid’s sister company stated, EirGrid are proud to partner with the GAA and sponsor the GAA Football U21 All-Ireland Championship which affords us the opportunity to get behind the most talented young footballers in the country. The EirGrid GAA Football U21 Ulster Championship is now home to current All-Ireland champions Tyrone and we are really looking forward to see the talent and competition to come from Ulster again in 2016.
The work of EirGrid and SONI is to manage the island of Ireland’s electricity grid, and our business mirrors this Championship in that it covers the entire country. On behalf of EirGrid I would like to extend our very best wishes to all players, managers and backroom teams, as well as their parents and families, for the Championship ahead.”
