Anderson says ‘Brexit’ must not be imposed on Northern Ireland

The European Parliament has been told that Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales should not be forced to leave the EU in the event that that that a referendum on the the UK’s membership of the EU is lost.
During a debate on proposed reforms designed to prevent a so-called ‘Brexit’, members of Sinn Fein, the SNP and Plaid Cymru told the European Parliament that referencum in June would would be disrespectful in light of the fact that Assembly elections take place in May.
Derry based MEP Martina Anderson said the North should have its own referendum, calculated and counted separately and the outcome respected.
She said the reforms being proposed at the behest of the British Prime Minister are a backward step……..
