Derry City Manager Kenny Shiels has defended the clubs decision to set up a satellite centre in Donegal just 7km from the home of Finn Harps and says his understands the criticism about the move.
The club launched their first of many new ‘footballing satellite centres’ throughout the North West, at the ground of Curragh Athletic in Killygordon on Monday.
Sheils told the Derry Journal, “Its an open book, We have no hidden agenda”.
“We’re not doing anything to jeopardise Finn Harps in any way. It’s about promoting our club and giving young players some coaching time”
The centres will be based to get the best young talented players from their respective clubs throughout the area, to train and eventually one day possibly play for Derry City.
The club say the Curragh facility will be used to establish links with the Donegal, Strabane and Castledery area.
