No decision in new Kelly sentence hearing

Scales of justice
The Court of Appeal has risen to consider three updated statements in relation to the fresh sentence of the man behind Ireland’s worst ever car crash.
Shaun Kelly of Hill Road in Ballymagan, Buncrana was driving the car which caused the accident in which eight people, including seven of his friends, died while driving towards Buncrana in 2010.
His original two year jail term was set aside on appeal, and a fresh sentence hearing is being heard this afternoon.
The 27-year-old’s defence counsel has told the three-judge panel that a suspended sentence would be more effective than a longer prison sentence.
